Tattoos are designed to live on the body for many years, so seeing how a piece settles into the skin over time is an important part of understanding an artist’s work.

The photographs on this page show tattoos that have healed anywhere from several months to several years. They offer a glimpse into how colour softens, how the skin holds detail, and how a piece continues to live with the body long after the appointment.

For me, healed work is just as important as the day the tattoo is finished.

Healed Work

A slower approach

Many of my larger pieces are created across multiple sessions.

This allows the skin to heal between stages and gives me the opportunity to see how the tattoo settles before continuing to build the next layer.

Working this way means I can refine colour, soften transitions and make small adjustments that help the piece age beautifully.

It’s a slower approach, but it allows the work to develop in a way that feels considered and intentional.

Designed to age well

When I design a piece, I’m not only thinking about how it will look on the day it’s finished.

I’m also thinking about how it will settle into the skin over time.

This influences many small decisions during the design and tattooing process:

• how colour is layered

• how soft transitions are built

• how much space is left for the skin to breathe

• how the composition flows with the body

Those choices help ensure that the piece continues to feel soft, balanced and readable as it heals.
